Posted - 11/06/2013 : 16:35:50 Wanted to let everyone know that a coy of the NRA report is at the indoor range in the SOP folder. Also the full report will be scanned and posted to the clubs website shortly. If anyone has additional questions about it or anything else, please contact either myself, or any other board member. Thanks much,

Posted - 10/29/2013 : 21:42:16 Looks like the NRA runs like the government , taking six months to write a two page report and draw up some illustrations. After the first issue the club closed the range and then reopened it after all members read the lastest updated range riules. There were changes made to how the range can be used so that bullets would stay in the berms. The problem was that even after members were advised as to the changes and why they were made, someone did not follow them, resulting in another range closing. I bet everyone would like to know who thought that they did not have to follow the new range rules. Art, I went to a rifle match a couple of years ago and there were over 60 lines shot, so I do know that the matches did bring in very good money. Times change and maybe rifle matches will come back. Let's hope so. I know you put in a lot of time and effort to advertise, post on web pages, and make these events happen. Hopefully everyone realizes that there has been a big increase in handgun purchases over the last several years, and the club will be forward looking to come up with pistol events to add additional revenue. The range as it stands now there are limits to the type of events that can be ran safety. Hopefully what ever improvements are going to be done, happen quickly. It takes time to get a following of shooters to come to events the the club might host. There are no pistol shooting events along the lakeshore. Hopefully that is not because there is no interest from gun owners in the area. Hopefully they are just waiting for a place to go shoot some type of action pistol event. Maybe the club could the the place. I think the future of the club might depend on it.

Posted - 10/29/2013 : 14:27:03 Gary, first of all the report has NOT been available for 6 months. If you read page 2 under the "Opening Statement" section it states, and I quote verbatim "The Range Technical Team (RTT) arrived at the Muskegon Pistol Rifle Club on April 22, 2013 at 1:30 pm". That is why it's dated April 22nd. Please don't assume and/or accuse this club and board from withholding any information from the general membership, that is not the case, nor will it be on my watch. I received the final report in the mail yesterday and you are more than welcome to see the post marked envelope it arrived in.
As to the berms and/or pistol bats, those are topics for discussion, absolutely and we will get to them.
As to pistol shooting vs. rifle shooting, what you say is probably valid now, but 4 years ago, this club was doing very well with rifle HP events, I have results and competitor lists to back that up. Right now pistol shooting looks to have overtaken rifle shooting and I'm sure the club will be able to run these types of matches once again. Patience please.
I am also available to answer any and all questions from any member at any time. If I don't answer right away, it's because I'm pre-disposed with my job, but I WILL get back to you. Also, if I don't know the answer I will tell you, and then do my best to find it. Thanks,

Posted - 10/29/2013 : 09:10:19 Report is dated mid April 2013', so I would then believe it has been available for six months. Why are we just now receiving it? It basically tells the club to up grade the backstop and create berms between different shooting lanes. This is pretty much standard at every club I go to. I was told at the GMM that since the range has had RSO present only 11 members have used the range, and many times noone showed up to use the range. Spending a lot of money to make berms between the l25,50,and ,75 yard ranges would be a waste of club finances. I have said for three years to dig into the hill to the west to create shooting bays that would have a high backstop with side bearms between them. There could be one made 25 and one 50 yards deep that would eliminate the need for the current bearms that are there now. If five or six shootng bays were made then a person shooting in one would have there own bays to use and not be sharing their time waiting for another shooter to get done so they cane go down range. Thiese bays would also be used for action pistol shoots. That is where clubs are making their money, not target rifle style shooting event. Problem with action pistol events is it takes a group of members to organize and run them, which unfortunately this club does not have |
